Today Brought Treats and a Great Nurse

Not much new to report.  We met with our new "managing nurse" today, she is GREAT, much more compatible with us.  After our one hospice meeting (with two people, but still just one appointment)  we had treats of all sorts

a healthy fresh lunch was delivered to the doorstep then a great little visit from a dear friend from work a quick visit and amazing art from a former student a surprise delivery of a whole hell of a lot of ice cream - so if you're in the mood, come on by for some Fenton's - mmmmm....
more touching and funny emails, cards, facebook posts, from friends (new and long lost) as well as more former students (really I count you all as friends too)
So thanks to all, you have no idea how much it really means to us during this most craptastic, unfair and fucked up time.  I'm thankful to report my noggin is still functional (knock on wood) and I'm not experiencing any dramatic increase in symptoms elsewhere.

Carved and painted by one very talented and dear young woman!

  1. Happy Birthday Eileen,
Wish I were close enough to stop by and enjoy some of the Fenton's ice cream with you. What wonderful gifts from wonderful friends! That bug - carved and painted for you -- is fantastic.
So glad to hear that the symptoms are not increasing. Good to hear that the managing nurse is GREAT; you deserve the best. Wishing you a wonderful day. Love, Ellen

  2. Happy Birthday, Eileen!!

Thanks for the post and photos! Wow, a very impressive mother lode of ice cream! What a generous gift. Enjoy!! And that bug is terrific!

I am happy to hear that you are enjoying the second nurse. Having someone who is supportive and with whom you feel comfortable is huge (and very necessary).

I hope you are able to enjoy your day.

    Sending much love, Jane

  4. Happy "craptastic" birthday. If anyone can have the strength and nobility to smile over little things like a shit-load of ice cream, it will be you. So, what ARE the 10 flavors? You realize, don't you, that you've got an experiment waiting to happen? In your July 21st blog posting you said you hoped tomorrow would bring ice cream and not additional symptoms. And voila - that shit-load of which I've spoken.... So what's the next little hint? I'm hoping for the magic wand. Wishing you, Keith and your mom a couple of smiles, love, Sheila

  8. Happy "belated" Birthday! Think of you often and glad to read that your noggin is still working. Evident by the perfect use of the word "craptastic".
You continue to have grace, style and kindness. Evident by you taking the time to think of everyone else and post on your birthday.
Wish I could be there with you to share in that shit load of ice cream. Tonight I am going to celebrate your birthday with a Haagen-Dazs rasberry & vanilla/chocolate ice cream bar. It goes very well with a really cold glass of Chardonnay.
    Love ya Rohm Dog!
